Rate per mile (RPM) is the most common metric truckers use to evaluate whether a load is worth taking. It tells you how much revenue you earn for every mile driven.
Loaded RPM = Rate ÷ Loaded miles. This shows what you earn per mile while carrying freight.
Total RPM = Rate ÷ (Loaded miles + Deadhead miles). This is the true picture — it accounts for the empty miles you drive to pick up the load.
